MUSICAL CELEBRATION Haochen Zhang(left), Chinese pianist from Shanghai poses with Ludovic Morlot, music director of the Seattle Symphony at a party hosted by The Seattle Symphony at Mercer Island in Seattle on Wednesday. Zhang, a Van Cliburn winner at 19 and Shanghai Symphony Artist-in-Residence for the 13-14 season, will play The Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, composed by Edvard Grieg (1843–1907) at the Celebrate Asia concert in Seattle on Friday, March 19. Celebrate Asia is presented as part of the Seattle Symphony's New Music WORKS initiative, which is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. it explores the diverse musical traditions of Asia in a spectacular East-meets-West event. This year's program features the cultures of China, Vietnam and Japan. Composer, conductor and pianist from China Shuying Li, has been named the winner for the Seattle Symphony's Celebrate Asia Composition Competition.
