BMW pulled the covers of the new special-edition version of the BMW i8, on which yellow shares its canvas with accents in Frozen Grey Metallic, on Wednesday, the first media day during the on-going Shanghai international auto show.
A sophisticated application process is used to transfer the paint to the BMW i8's carbon fiber-reinforced plastic bodywork.
The silky, matte shimmer of the finish shines a particularly vivid spotlight on the plug-in hybrid sports car's dynamic lines and flowing surface design.
The model will sport newly designed 20-inch BMW i light-alloy wheels in W-Spoke design with matte-painted surfaces and mixed-size tires.
The car's interior features contrast stitching in yellow for the seat surfaces and center console, underlining the sporty and extravagant looks that dominate the cockpit design of the BMW i8.
Yellow contrast stitching can also be found in the side panel trim and door cards, on the floor mats and in the lower section of the instrument panel.
An anthracite-colored headliner, grey seat belts, ceramic applications for the selector lever and iDrive Controller, and door sill strips with "Edition" inscriptions add the finishing touches to the exclusive interior ambience of the special-edition model.
