Iran blasts US veto over UN resolution on Jerusalem
TEHRAN -- Iran Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the US veto of a UN Security Council resolution against its decision on Jerusalem, Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said in a statement that by vetoing the resolution, which was backed by 14 other member states of the UNSC, the United States once again proved that it is taking steps in line with the interests of Israel and is seeking to violate the legitimate rights of all Palestinians.
The US move is against international peace and security, Qasemi was quoted as saying by Tasnim.
Iran urges the international community and all the countries in the world to prevent the United States from implementing its plan on Jerusalem to preserve international peace and security.
In the meantime, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo, slammed the move, stressing it was proof that the US is a main supporter of the Tel Aviv regime's occupation and aggression.
"The US wishes to remove solving Palestine's problems from the UN's agenda by twisting reality and misleading public opinion," Khoshroo was quoted as saying by Press TV.
It was also another example of Washington's hostility towards Muslims and the free world, he said.
On Monday, 14 members of the 15-member UN Security Council voted in favor of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, and expressed "deep regret at the US decision on Jerusalem."
