Man brings taste of home to international friends in China
A Chinese man's Indian restaurant Desi Food, meaning "home taste", has been very popular in Zhengzhou city, Central China's Henan province.
Si Shaojie, a graduate of Zhengzhou University, started his career as an English trainer and translator but chose to open an Indian restaurant when he got a second chance to choose his career path.
Although he learned Indian cooking from an Indian chef when he was a university student, business was not very good at the beginning. Some Indian students voluntarily taught him how to make traditional Indian dishes and helped to buy materials.
Gradually, Desi Food became very popular among students from many countries such as India, Pakistan and Nepal. Many students consider Desi Food their first choice when they have get-togethers.
For those customers who cannot visit the restaurant, Si also provides takeaway delivery services and is one of the few delivery men who can speak English.
Desi Food has become a widely known restaurant on the internet and Si made a lot of international friends through running this business with his wife and mother. Si said he will continue to run this restaurant, as it has become part of his life.
"It is very meaningful to make friends from different parts of world and learn different cultures (by running this business)," Si said.
