Shandong man makes $61,000 a year selling fried chicken
Sun Qiwei learned how to fry chicken in his spare time during the two years he studied in Korea. After returning to China, he started his own fried chicken business in 2016 on Hanlefang Commercial Pedestrian Street in the Economic Development Zone of Weihai, East China’s Shandong province.
Now, he makes over 400,000 yuan ($61,064.56) in net profit per year.
Sun didn't expect business to be so good, and eventually had to add tables outside the restaurant and borrow space from around the neighborhood in rush hours.
After Sun shared his annual profit on WeChat, over 20 people visited his restaurant from different provinces such as Shandong, Jiangsu and Sichuan. About 11 people signed contracts on the spot with Sun, paying tuition fees to learn how to make fried chicken.
Take-away food with online orders accounts for a major part of his business, Sun said.
"Information travels fast in the internet age, so as long as you can make good products, you will be recognized or accepted by customers sooner or later," Sun said.
Sun's plan for the next stage is to make an expansion when the appropriate opportunity comes and develop the business into a catering company.
