Revitalizing rattan-weaving in Guizhou
Share - WeChat
The rattan-weaving technique of Dalou Mountain originated in Guizhou province in the 1960s. It was included in the Zunyi Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
Using rattan or bamboo, the whole weaving process requires very little mechanical support. Artisans need to process the rattan, shape the vines to make a firm structure, then weave the thin fibers together. With proper training, they are able to build chairs, tea tables and settees that are lightweight yet very durable.
