First, he said the world faces big demographic pressures. While we currently live in a world of 7.5 billion people, in 2050 the population will reach 10 billion.

It's very clear that if the world is going to continue as it does today-- to produce, to consume -- "all of us will have problems".

Gosset said demographic changes are creating some fears, especially in the West, more in Europe than in the US. "And when you fear something, you tend to look more inward. And by the way, it explains the populist, nationalist trends in Europe. So this is the first element of fragmentation of this so-called de-globalization," said Gosset.

According to the professor, the second very important elemental change in the global system is the way that economic globalization is perceived. This also generates some fears of unemployment or not benefiting from this economic trend.

"And it does also create some fragmentation and some nationalistic tendencies," said Gosset.

He listed climate change as the new phenomenon affecting the planet.

Gosset explained, "So in fact, there is a risk to see a kind of de-globalization, a distraction of global solidarity."

Commenting on this moment, a time when President Xi emphasizes how the world has a common destiny, he said: "This is very relevant and very much needed amid the risks, fears and threats I was referring to."

To relieve such fears and threats, the world needs to look at how it can really build this community of shared future for humankind, which is the right path.

"The goal is right. And it answers the real threats. But how we go there is also an important question," said Gosset.

Gosset said the wise thing to do is to bring people together, such as through this vision of community of shared future for humankind, because what always remains is what unites people.

"So this is why I am convinced that the community of shared future for humankind is going to remain because it brings humankind together," said Gosset.

"It doesn't divide us, it unites us."
