Summer opens the door for music in Beijing

Beijing Symphony Orchestra gave a recital under the baton of conductor Tan Lihua, with a repertoire including Tales from the Vienna Woods, a waltz by Johann Strauss II, The 1812 Overture by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsk and the Carmen Overture by French composer, Georges Bizet.

The concert, held at the Forbidden City Concert Hall on July 5, opened the annual summer music program Open The Door of Art.

First launched 24 years ago, the summer event offers audiences, especially students a variety of programs with low ticket prices, including classical music, traditional Chinese operas and dance.

Running until August 31, 75 shows, 10 summer camps and 10 masterclasses will be offered during this year's program.
