Five world records broken within 10 days of competition at Asiad

JAKARTA -- Five new world records have been set up so far at the ongoing Asian Games, the organisers confirmed on Monday.

Chinese swimmer Liu Xiang broke women's 50m backstroke world record with a time of 26.98 seconds, becoming the first woman breaking into the 27-second mark in the event.

Elsewhere, two world records were broken in archery, both set by South Korean athletes. A world record was also set in shooting by a Chinese Taipei athlete, and a weightlifting world record by an Iranian lifter.

The 18th Asian Games, attracting more than 10,000 athletes, run through Sept. 2.
