South Korea knocks out Philippines, China makes it into final four
JAKARTA - Defending champion South Korea beat NBA star Jordan Clarkson's Philippines 91-82 in the Asian Games basketball quarterfinals here on Monday as China overwhelmed Indonesia 98-63, also entering into the final four.
Ricardo Ratliffe dominated the game as he poured in 30 points and 14 rebounds for South Korea. Clarkson led the Philippines with 25 points while Standhardinger grabbed 16 points and Stanley Pringle chipped in 14.
Clarkson came to lift the team in the third as he buried 15 points to give the Philippines a 65-64 lead heading into the last quarter. But South Korean team got a hot hand from downtown, hitting five three-pointers in the last 10 minutes to pull the game away.
China didn't face much resistance on Monday as they thrashed Indonesia 98-63 to face Chinese Taipei in the semifinal.
Abudushalamu led China with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Wang Zhelin finished with 16. Ding Yanyuhang and Zhao Rui had 10 apiece.
"We controlled the game tempo today. Hope everyone get a chance to play so we rest some starters when we enjoy a big lead." Chinese basketball coach Li Nan said.
