China's Xi Ricuo powers to gold in Youth Olympics 5,000m walk
BUENOS AIRES - China's Xi Ricuo finished more than half a minute ahead of her nearest rival to clinch gold in the girls' 5,000m race walk at the Youth Olympics here on Tuesday.
Xi crossed the line in 22 minutes 40.23 seconds, more than 43 seconds quicker than second-placed Olga Fiaska of Greece. Ecuador's Maria Villalva was third in 23 minutes 26.70 seconds.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong, China's Wong Lok Hei Addis took bronze in the boys' 110m hurdles. The 17-year-old clocked 13.39 seconds to finish narrowly behind silver medalist Kenny Fletcher of France, who recorded 13.25 seconds. Qatari runner Owaab Barrow claimed gold in a time of 13.17 seconds.
In the boys' pole jump, France's Thiery Baptiste secured the gold medal by leaping a personal-best distance of 5.32 meters. Japan's Kazuki Furusawa grabbed silver with 5.22m and Russia's Dmitriy Kachanov bronze with 5.12m.
Other athletics gold medalists on Tuesday included Jordan Diaz of Cuba in the boys' triple jump, Greece's Elina Tzengko in the girl's javelin 500g, Cabezas Caracas of Colombia in the girls' 400m hurdles, Japan's Haruto Deguchi in the boys' 400m hurdles, Qatari Abdelaziz Mohamed in the boys' 200m, Bulgaria's Aleksandra Nacheva in the girls' triple jump, Gudbjorg Bjarnadottir in the girls 200m and Topias Laine of Finland in the boys' javelin.
