The four-act drama Home by Cao Yu is adapted from the 1943 Chinese version, 1999 Chinese and English versions and the novel of the same title by Ba Jin. The story took place in a towering mansion in western China after the May Fourth Movement. Gao Juexin, the young master of the Gao family, is forced to give up his first love Qian Meifen, whom he has known since childhood, and to marry a stranger. In the bridal chamber, the bride Li Ruijue is prepared and willing to sacrifice anything for her husband in the future while Gao Juexin stands by the window and repeatedly sigh. By the lake, servant Mingfeng is shedding silent tears, because she is about to be sent to the Feng's house as a concubine while she is in love with the third young master Gao Juehui. However, she can't see any hope for her relationship with Gao Juehui and walks toward the lake.
