Jiangxi's traditional Ehu Academy enjoys a revival
Local authorities have invested 4.1 million yuan ($590,000) to protect the academy, ranging from restoration and maintenance to infrastructure upgrading and publicity promotion.
Also, the local authorities have taken a series of measures to help raise awareness about this renowned ancient Chinese academy. For example, more academic seminars are planned to take place at the academy, with experts from all walks of life exchanging ideas, and a tourism-oriented town with a theme of Ehu Academy is set for construction.
For China's young generation, regular reading activities, debate competitions and adult ceremonies will also happen at the academy, bringing people closer to this ancient institution of learning.
"In the history of Jiangxi province, more than 400 academies have existed before, with more than 160 academies located at Shangrao city. However, only 10 academies have been well-preserved so far. Therefore, it is not an easy task to keep the past alive," said Ye Zhenglin, a member of the counselor for the China Academy Association, adding that the key to revitalizing ancient high culture is to find its unique qualities and encourage people to learn more.
