Kunqu Opera: A Dream of Red Mansions
A Dream of Red Mansions is a time-honored romance classic in Chinese literature written by Cao Xueqin from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It describes the rise and fall of the Jia family, whose mansions were raided and confiscated. Jia Baoyu, a male heir of the family, had a whirlwind romance with his cousin Lin Daiyu, but was betrothed to his other cousin Xue Baochai.
The National Center for the Performing Arts will stage a Kunqu Opera show based on the novel next week.
