Chateau Lafite Rothschild brings choice wines to auction
About Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)
Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has made excellence in the vineyard and wine-making practices the basis of its growth. With 1,200 hectares of vineyards, DBR (Lafite) Group works with an international network of more than 80 distributors.
Chateau Lafite Rothschild was the start of the DBR (Lafite) Group. It was the first Chateau acquired by the Rothschild family in 1868, and inspires and guides the winegrowing practices at various vineyards: the expertise and tradition upheld for six generations by the Rothschild family are applied to all properties, with the objective of producing high-quality wines full of finesse and elegance in the “Lafite Spirit”. Baron Eric de Rothschild has brought new drive to Chateau Lafite Rothschild through his commitment to achieving excellence both in the vineyard and winery. He also contributed to the DBR (Lafite) Group’s growth through acquisitions in France and internationally. From 2018 Saskia de Rothschild, Baron Eric’s daughter, is the sixth generation of family members to head the group.
“The Lafite Spirit” is based on a rich past and a tradition rooted in the Bordeaux terroir, knowledge handed down from generation to generation and the excellence and refinement of the wines they help to produce. “The Lafite Spirit” is also a spirit of discovery, which has led the group to open to the world, establish vineyards in new regions and produce new, high-quality wines.
From Chateau Lafite Rothschild, the group expanded rapidly from 1962 onwards with the successive acquisitions of Chateau Duhart-Milon (Pauillac 4th Grand Cru Classé), Chateau Rieussec (Sauternes 1st Grand Cru Classé) and Chateau L’évangile (Pomerol). It then moved beyond the Bordeaux region with: Vi?a Los Vascos (Chile, 1988), Domaine d’Aussières (Languedoc, 1999), Bodegas CARO (Argentina, 1999), and has been developing a vineyard in China in the Penglai region since 2008. In 1995 Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) began producing a range of wines of the Bordeaux appellation under the brand name of Légende and Collection Barons de Rothschild (Lafite).
