Waltzing to the very best of Austrian culture in Beijing
Tang's wish may be satisfied at home, as the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center will hold its annual waltz gala – the Kempinski Vienna Ball Beijing – on April 13, bringing the very best of Austrian art and cultural experiences to the capital.
The ball will create a "wonderful leisurely atmosphere with Viennese spirit in Beijing", said Friedrich Stift, Austria's ambassador to China, noting that guests will follow a white-tie dress code.
Differing from the more popular waltzing in Beijing's open spaces, the Kempinski Vienna Ball offers the closest thing to experiencing authentic Viennese ballroom dancing, according to Brice Péan, general manager of the hotel in Beijing.
Besides waltzing, guests will have the chance to take in a performance from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and a quadrille led by Heinz Heidenreich, a former Vienna State Opera Ballet solo dancer.
Kempinski has held the waltz gala annually since 2015, as their response to the passion for authentic Austrian music and art in Beijing.
Ambassador Stift said he hopes the ball will bring "unparalleled Viennese culture and one of the most important insights into the Austrian lifestyle to Beijing".
