Chinese help raises poor Laos school to excellence
Vilayphone Vongsuvanh, a student at the school, said: "I really like the teachers from China, and I love to take Chinese classes as they can help me find a better job in the future."
Principal Bounmy Vilaysan said the foundation has really helped the school to improve its equipment and facilities, and the school is now recognized in surrounding communities. It has become a symbol of the sincere friendship between people of the two countries, he said.
"I hope it will continue to promote the development of education in Laos and contribute to friendly relations," he said.
Vongkham Saensathid, a local government official, said the school has brought new hope for residents. "We hope there will be more help from the Chinese side to provide the necessary help to fulfill local kids' dreams of going to school," he said.
Founded in January 2011, the China Foundation for Peace and Development has conducted more than 60 welfare projects in areas such as education, health and vocational training in 13 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
