The southern part of Xinjiang, along the Tarim Basin, is home to the world's largest area of poplar forests. Over the past three years, Xinjiang has ramped up its environmental protection efforts and continued to transport treated water to the forest area. As a result, more poplars have been brought back from the brink of death, and rangers on a mission like Ali are playing an increasingly important role.
