IMF to continue to be partner of China's reforms, says new chief
Kristalina Georgieva, the new International Monetary Fund managing director, said she expected to visit China soon and the global lender would continue to cooperate with China.
"I look forward to visiting China, and I know China has been for 40 years pursuing a pathway to reform. The IMF has been a partner of China in these reforms, and we will continue to do so," Georgieva told China Daily at the IMF headquarters on Thursday.
Georgieva is expected to visit China within the coming two months, according to reliable IMF sources.
Georgieva, who this month took the helm of the IMF from Christine Lagarde, said the world economy is now in a "synchronized slowdown", and global trade growth has come to a near standstill, with trade disputes and the ensuing uncertainty and Brexit continuing to hold back economic potential.
