China ensures energy supply, fulfilling nation's demand
China has made steady progress in ensuring energy supply for the first three quarters of this year, an official said on Tuesday.
Song Wen, deputy head for development and planning at National Energy Administration, said at a press conference that China has made positive progress in increasing oil and gas production and reservation, advancing coal capacity, and ensuring power supply.
According to Song, the production of crude oil hit 143 million metric tons for the first 9 months of this year, up 1.2 percent year-on-year, marking the first increase following a three-year slump.
Gas production was 127.7 billion cubic meters in the first three quarters, up 9.5 percent year-on-year. The growth rate was 3.3 percentage points higher compared with that of same period last year. The first three quarters of 2018 saw 40 newly approved modern medium- to large- sized coal plants, totaled 196 million tons.
"More high quality coal capacity has been putting into use," Song said, who also noted China's ability to maintain a power supply has also been improved in the first three quarters of this year.
The installed capacity of non-fossil fuel power generation equipment has accounted for 56 percent of the 64.55 million kilowatts newly generated by installed fuel power generation equipment.
Among those, hydropower was 2.8 million kilowatts, wind power was 13.08 million kilowatts, photovoltaic power was 15.99 million kilowatts, and nuclear power hit 4.09 million kilowatts.
