Loyalty, mission and responsibility: Jin Yinan
Honesty
Professor Jin believes that honesty is to set an example and stay true to the original self. To lead an honest and clean life is not to do nothing. It is not to say that you haven't done anything and then claim: "Look how clean I am!" That's wrong. Honesty is the confidence of doing things.
There is a saying that "The less we need, the closer we are to God". Do you think Gandhi had no power? His strength was derived from his unselfishness.
Mao Zedong wrote a paragraph in the Struggle in Jinggangshan, that said, "Now we have cotton but no cloth to make winter clothes for 5,000 soldiers. In such cold winter, many soldiers are still wearing two layers of thin clothes. Fortunately, we have got used to the hard life. And everyone is the same. From the army commander to the cook, we all have meals worth five cents. The pocket money is also the same, 20 or 40 cents according to the rules. Consequently the soldiers have no complaints against anyone."
As Mao Zedong said, everyone was treated equally in the army from top to bottom, so the soldiers didn't envy anyone. This is also revealed and recognized by the Western countries.
So why do we need loyalty and honesty today? There are many lessons from the past. You can see how people failed and weren't able to stand up. You need to know the great significance of loyalty, honesty and responsibility that we advocate today. It is not about personal integrity or personal moral upliftment, but it means the care for the whole society. You must have such strength.
