Guangdong smash Shenzhen, Liaoning trounce Jiangsu
BEIJING -- Marshon Brooks scored a game-high 34 points as Guangdong Southern Tigers overwhelmed Shenzhen Aviators 132-104. Lance Stephenson snatched 41 points, 12 rebounds, leading Liaoning Flying Leopards past Jiangsu Dragons 111-103 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league here on Wednesday.
Hu Mingxuan had 24 points, Yi Jianlian had 22 points plus 8 rebounds, Sonny Weems dished out 17 assists for Guangdong. Jarell Martin scored a team-high but only 16 points for Shenzhen.
"We made full preparation before the game. Our defense showed high level," Guangdong coach Du Feng said after the game.
Jonathan Gibson of Jiangsu scored a game-high 43 points but had a terrible turnover in the last seconds, which buried the team hope of notching the first win in 2020.
Stephenson and his teammate Brandon Bass who scored 24 points, shooting 10 for 16, stood up to showcase their aggressiveness to help Liaoning prevail 83-79 into the last period and bag their win.
In the other game of the night, Zhejiang Golden Bulls beat Shanghai Sharks 126-110.
Zhejiang surged a 8-0 last period run before leading 93-91 after three quarters to take away the victory. Marcus Edward Denmon grabbed a game-high 50 pionts for Zhejiang, followed by 24 from Wu Qian. Zhu Xuhang had 18 points and 9 rebounds. Donatas Motiejunas led Shanghai with 36 points and 19 rebounds. Luo Hanchen had 18 points and 9 rebounds. Dong Hanlin added 14.
