Disney's 'Frozen 2' becomes highest-grossing animated film globally
Disney's animated blockbuster Frozen 2 brought in $53.7 million worldwide this weekend for a massive global cume of $1.325 billion, becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever.
The animated fantasy collected $11.29 million this weekend for a North American cume of $449.9 million. Internationally, the film took in $42.4 million this weekend through Sunday for a total overseas box office of $875.3 million, according to studio figures collected by the measurement firm Comscore.
The previous record-holding film was the original Frozen, which grossed $1.281 billion worldwide. Frozen 2 arrived six years after its predecessor. The film features the return of the Academy Award-winning team - directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck as well as the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff. It brings back Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff, as they venture beyond the kingdom of Arendelle to find out why Elsa was born with magical powers.
The top three highest-grossing animated film at the global box office - Frozen 2, Frozen, and Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion), are all under Disney's banner.
