Makeup avocation gives me confidence
Qiu Xiaoai, 25, a makeup seller on WeChat
I have been running a profitable sideline, selling makeup to my friends via WeChat for about two years. Every day, I get updates with new information about popular makeup and cosmetic products, especially on overseas brands.
I purchase the products that I think my friends would like to buy. I usually buy them in bulk, directly from the producers, or on the websites of makeup brands to get a low cost. When some overseas makeup brands offer sales, I also stock up on goods.
Then, I will promote them by posting advertisements on the WeChat Moments, including pictures and descriptions of the products. I have to update my ads frequently to increase the chance that my WeChat friends will really look through the them.
I also spend a lot time chatting with my customers. Sometimes I don't have any orders, even after chatting with people all night and answering all kinds of questions.
The job also needs a sense of fashion, otherwise, you might be worried about not selling the piling stocks in your home and losing money you spent on them.
Luckily, the business cashes in and the customers like my tastes. I have some regular customers. When I promote some new and minority products, they love trying them out.
Some of my male friends buy makeup from me as gifts for their girlfriends. They will follow my advice on which products to buy. Sometimes, I feel like an opinion leader among my friends.
