The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area has helped a manufacturing company set up a factory with a monthly production capacity of 10 million masks, from registration to Monday's test-run within just seven days.

It started trial operations on Monday in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as Beijing ETown, in Daxing district in the capital.

It took only seven days during the Spring Festival holiday from the time the company said that it was looking for a place to set up a plant to produce masks for the current battle against the virus, and getting all the paperwork done and approvals made with the help of local authorities.

On Sunday night, three sets of production equipment were delivered to the factory and workers started debugging it.

The factory is expected initially to produce 20,000 N95 masks and 200,000 three-layer surgical masks daily. In future, its production capacity will reach 10 million per month when running at full capacity.

On  Jan 26, staff on duty at the area received a call, saying that a company named Lianhe Kangli had equipment to produce masks, but they needed to find a plant with a high-standard clean level.

Wang Lijun, deputy director of ETown's technological innovation bureau, helped them find a plant at the Beijing UnionLuck Biological Technology Co Ltd factory.

Meanwhile, to set up a factory in Beijing, Lianhe Kangli, which only manufactured in Central China's Henan province, had to go through industrial and commercial registration, industrial project approval and environmental impact assessment with local authorities.

A WeChat working group was set up by 13 departments of the Beijing ETown to support it through the procedures within just a few days.
