Watch company owner organizes enormous medical donation
Guan Weinan, owner of a watch company in Shenzhen, purchased medical supplies worth 5.6 million yuan ($800,000) from overseas and donated them to those fighting the novel coronavirus on the frontline, including medical care staff, customs officers and social workers.
"The materials were bought in Thailand by my friends. The credit goes to them," Guan said.
The supplies consist of 800,000 medical protective masks, 2.5 million medical disinfection gloves, 300 temperature measuring apparatuses, 400 pairs of protective glasses and 200 pairs of protective gloves.
These goods arrived at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport on Jan 31.
"With the joint efforts of airline, airport and Shenzhen Customs, the epidemic control and prevention materials finished their customs clearance in a short time, so they can reach needy people at an early date," Guan said.
On Feb 1, Guan donated some of these materials to the Nanshan district government of Shenzhen.
"We appreciate your kindness and charity. It's a relief for us," said Nanshan Party chief Wang Qiang.
Guan handled the customs clearance and transportation of these goods all by himself, to prevent more people from being exposed to the virus in public places.
Considering the epidemic situation, Guan did not ask his employees to help.
He hopes the virus can be defeated as soon as possible with everyone's effort.
