GUANGZHOU - South China's Guangdong province has given over 300,000 poor students 30-gigabyte data packages for online learning during the novel coronavirus outbreak, local education authorities said Friday.

The students can receive the data from the province's telecommunication service providers and use it until the school semester is resumed, according to an official document by the provincial education department and communication administration.

The province will also provide free service to expand the broadband in homes of teaching staff and students.

Elementary, junior and senior high schools in Guangdong have been conducting online teaching since March 2 due to the outbreak. Previously, the province has offered over 9,200 poor students tablets for facilitating online learning.

The local education department has issued a document for online teaching requiring educational authorities to pay close attention to students with no television and internet access as well as left-behind children.
