Forest fire put out in SW China's Sichuan

CHENGDU -- A forest fire that started on Thursday has been put out in Southwest China's Sichuan province while firefighters remain on guard about reignition, local authorities said on Monday.

The fire broke out at 5 pm on Thursday at the border of Xide and Mianning counties in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan.

As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, the forest fire scorched about 73 hectares in Xide county and 16 hectares in Mianning county. That day more than 2,600 people had been battling the fire, according to the prefectural government.

The open flames have been put out, and some firefighters are still dealing with smoke points with burning risks, the provincial forest fire corps said.
