CNPC records 8.6% increase in domestic gas production
China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), one of China's top three oil giants, said it produced 150.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2019, with domestic production reaching 118.8 cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 8.6 percent, providing a strong support for the optimization of China's energy mix.
Domestic gas production accounted for 69.9 percent of the national total gas production, and its supply capacity is projected to increase further, said the company in its China National Petroleum Corp environmental protection communique released on Friday.
"In the face of the dual challenge of COVID-19 and low oil prices, CNPC has stepped up its efforts in ecological protection, knowing it is a task that brooks no delay," said Dai Houliang, chairman of China National Petroleum Corp.
Recognizing that the world's conventional energy industry is accelerating transition, we should promote a revolution in energy production and consumption and build an energy sector that is clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient, he said.
The company has also completed upgrading of national VIA gasoline and national VI diesel as scheduled, and supplied national VI standard gasoline and diesel. In 2019, the company supplied 119.594 million tons of refined oil to the domestic market to support China's accomplishment of its goal of reducing air pollutants.
The company's pollutant emissions continued to decline, and chemical oxygen demand emissions, ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions decreasing by 5.7 percent, 13.6 percent, 8.5 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively, compared with that in 2018.
