Airbnb launches Online Experiences in China
Airbnb recently launched its Online Experiences program in China, allowing people to enjoy authentic experiences with locals from all over the world via livestreaming.
Participants can learn how to cook small steamed stuffed buns from a host in Shanghai, interact with a shark expert in South Africa and practice yoga with a teacher from Japan.
Airbnb China said a recent survey showed 84 percent of subjects are willing to join Online Experiences, and nature and food categories are most popular.
Subjects believe they will enjoy a different culture and lifestyle, learn new knowledge, discover global talents and have fun.
Catherine Powell, head of Airbnb Experiences, said the online program aims to provide an opportunity for hosts to earn money and give guests the chance to “connect the world” from home.
She said the program is deeply rooted in human connection. They are led by inspiring hosts from all around the world, and provide deep insights and immersion into the hosts’ passions and interests.
“Instead of a passive ‘watching’ experience in a livestreaming format, hosts and guests can interact with each other, making real connections in real-time,” she said.
