Youth in Shenzhen do their part against coronavirus
Young entrepreneurs and talent individuals in Shenzhen, Guangdong province played a vital part in restoring the local economy to strength and helping in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to speakers at a seminar in Shenzhen on Friday.
Zhu Yueren, secretary-general of the Shenzhen Youth Federation, said the city organized more than 34,000 young people to combat the coronavirus, covering medical care, quarantine, examination, medical material and delivery.
A team of young engineers from Shenzhen Aerospace Industry Research Institute developed an assistant robot in only a week to help acquire coronavirus information such as body temperature, and to help handle reports at hospitals.
Jiang Wei, deputy secretary-general of the China Mammoth Foundation at the suggestion of Shenzhen-based genomics sequencing company BGI Genomics, property giant Vanke Co and investment firm Green Pine Capital Partners — said the organization has assisted in building 75 BGI Genomics' Huo-Yan labs in 34 nations and regions, testing more than 740,000 coronavirus samples.
Leng Detian, deputy president of the co-working office provider Beeplus shared his story of fighting the pandemic with local startups.
"We set up an array of controlling routines and compiled a list of 127 government support measures in major cities for our startup clients," Leng said.
About 90 percent of startups in Beeplus office spaces have resumed work.
The Shenzhen Youth Federation, China Mammoth Foundation and Beeplus Technology held the seminar on Friday to inspire and encourage young entrepreneurs and others with talent to revitalize after the crisis.
