The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has left many industries at bay. The tourism industry is among the first to bear the brunt. As a country economically relying heavily on tourism, the reopening of the borders is crucial for the Maldives. And this moment is now coming closer as international tourists will be allowed in on July 15.

According to the country's tourism ministry, liveaboards and hotels located at uninhabited islands will be open from July 15. Guest Houses and hotels located at inhabited islands will be open from August 1.

Tourists are not required to pay an additional fee, produce a certificate or test result indicative of negative status for COVID-19 prior to entry into the Maldives.

For tourists without symptoms, there is no requirement for quarantine either. The guideline will be periodically reviewed based on further developments.
