Behind-the-scene look at parcel sorting center
What does a modern parcel sorting center look like? A China Daily website reporter visited the East China operations headquarters of e-commerce platform Vip.com in Huzhou, Zhejiang province on Oct 19. The sorting center here handles goods sent to East China's Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces and Shanghai municipality.
Goods purchased by customers are brought here from various warehouses. After packaging and scanning codes on parcels, goods are automatically dispatched to the corresponding slot via assembly lines. Each slot represents a delivery outlet, and more than 440 slots represent over 440 delivery outlets in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces, as well as Shanghai. The goods shipped from different areas are finally put on shelves by staff members.
"Fengchao", or honeycomb, an automated storage system of the company, combines storage and sorting into one area. It uses fully automatic machine picking, and enhances the efficiency of order processing.
The headquarters are located in Huzhou, which is at the junction of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Located at a comprehensive logistics park, the company also has convenient transportation including railways, highways and waterways.
