Allegations against Tyndall first surfaced in 2018 in an investigation by the Los Angeles Times, which revealed that the doctor had been the subject of complaints of sexual misconduct at the university dating to the 1990s.
He wasn't suspended until 2016, when a nurse reported him to a rape crisis center. He was able to quietly resign with a large payout the next year.
Tyndall surrendered his medical license in September 2019.
The USC is a leading private research university in downtown Los Angeles. A total of 46,000 students were enrolled in the 2020-21 academic year, including more than 6,000 from China.
According to Deng Law Center in Los Angeles, at least three former Chinese students of the university joined the lawsuits in 2018.
