Documentary Hermit Master in focus at seminar
A seminar on the documentary Hermit Master was held in Beijing recently by China Media Group's TV series and documentary center and Beijing Normal University's Documentary Center.
The six-episode production focuses on the history and current situation of traditional Chinese martial arts. Director Xiao Wei said it's a rescue effort to shoot this work since many of the martial arts have become gradually extinct with many of the inheritors passing away.
The documentary has aired on CCTV-9 and China's video-sharing platform, Bilibili. It has achieved 8.4 points out of 10 on China's popular review site Douban.
According to Rao Shuguang, president of the China Film Critics Association, "Different from the martial art world in films and novels, the documentary unveils its true side in China.
"The documentary has unique cultural value at present. It works to eliminate misunderstandings of Chinese martial arts in society, and also helps us to understand the core values of traditional Chinese culture."
