Rice paddies in Helan county, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, are being designed to celebrate the Communist Party of China's centennial.
Original green paddies are being transformed into the shape of Sun Wukong — the Monkey King — and Tang Sanzang, two characters from the Chinese novel Journey to the West.
The paddies are also being reshaped into a boat with Chinese characters for Hongchuan Jingsheng, meaning the "red boat spirit", a reference to the Party's fearlessness during its establishment. The field, which covers 1.7 square kilometers, is located in the Rice and Fish Ecological Tourism Zone of Helan county. Tourists can try out different farm activities and buy organic rice. Around 200,000 tourists visited the field last year.
