85-year-old man gets his driver's license
An 85-year-old man passed his written and road tests and got a driver's license on Friday, making him the oldest person to get a license in Shiyan, Hubei province, according to local traffic authorities.
Tang Hongxi, who was born in 1936, is in good health and loves photography. To go where he likes and stay as long as he wants, he determined that he needed a car. And that meant getting a driver's license.
He registered at a local driving school about six months ago and passed the four parts of the driving test on Friday.
In November 2020, 12 new reform measures were ushered in by the Ministry of Public Security, including an allowance for people above the age of 70 to a drive small cars and mopeds.
In other words, there is no age limit for seniors who want to learn to drive. However, they must demonstrate the "three abilities" set for drivers —memory, judgment and reaction ability — in tests given by the traffic control department.
