Beijing to boost 5G network coverage in key areas
Beijing will step up its 5G network coverage in key areas including hospitals, universities and train stations, according to a news conference for the upcoming China International Fair for Trade in Services, The Beijing News reported on Monday.
The city has built 44,000 5G base stations, and 5G terminal users have reached 11.52 million as of the end of July, the report said, citing Huang Ping, deputy director of Beijing Communications Administration. The 5G network has covered areas like the core area of the capital, central business district, subcenter in the eastern district of Tongzhou and Olympic sports center area, as per the report.
At present, construction of 5G base stations has been completed at the venues for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in Beijing's northwestern Yanqing district, and 90 percent of the venues in downtown Beijing. Besides, all the base stations along the Beijing-Chongli Expressway and the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway have finished being built.
From Sept 3 to 7, a CIFTIS exhibition focusing on telecommunications, computer and information will be launched at Beijing Shougang Industrial Park, to showcase the scientific and technological innovation of the electronic information industry to the public.
