Xie Tian has built a reputation over three decades for his designs which preserve cultural traditions and are imbued with a contemporary touch. In recent years he has ventured into the realm of experimental art, transforming his cross-disciplinary experiences into impressive paintings and installations.

Xie is showing some 25 works of art at the Former Site of Zhaoxian Monastery, a famed Buddhist temple dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907), by the West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, where he lives and works.

Xie's work is partly drawn from his daily routine of ritualized sutra writing in the Chinese calligraphic style. The practice ignited his interest in exploring possibilities to present the form, texture and philosophical implications of ink through a vanguard approach.

The exhibition until Oct 8 will also wrap up the show's tour to 10 cities across the country.
