LHASA -- Grain output in Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region reached a new high of 1.07 million tonnes in 2021, topping 1 million tonnes for a seventh straight year, local authorities said Sunday.

The output went slightly up from 1.03 million tonnes registered in 2020, according to the regional agriculture and rural affairs department.

Last year, the grain planting area edged up 2.68 percent year on year to 2.81 million mu (about 187,000 hectares), as the region had made plans in advance to ensure a steady increase in the planting area.

Tibet's grain yield per mu of land rose 3 kg year on year to 379.2 kg last year, the department added.
