Remote translation being offered in 8 languages across all venues

Remote translation services are helping Beijing 2022 news conferences run smoothly for international athletes and reporters, with real-time translations being provided in eight different languages.

A team of 35 interpreters from 10 countries and regions are working out of 20 booths in the Main Media Center, where they watch the live broadcasts of the Olympic news conferences to provide translation services.

It is only the second time for a Games to use remote translations services, with the first being Tokyo in 2021.

Providing translation remotely means that services can be spread more evenly and efficiently across all the Olympic competition zones.

The team is able to provide translation for as many as five news conferences simultaneously.

Among the 35 interpreters, 10 are from China and the other 25 are from nine countries, including France, Germany, Japan and Russia.

"All of the foreign interpreters have served at least three Olympic Games, so they have plenty of experience," said Mei Jianjun, venue language services manager for the Beijing Games.
