FM: US must respect DPRK's security concerns
The root cause of the Korean Peninsula issue is the long-term external security threat for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has not been resolved, and the DPRK's reasonable security concerns have not been addressed, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.
Every party involved should work to meet each other halfway to solve the Korean Peninsula issue, Wang said.
The DPRK has taken a series of steps to promote talks since 2018, which haven't been met with due reciprocation, making the already thin mutual trust between the DPRK and the United States even worse and turning proposals for talks into empty words, Wang said.
How the issue will evolve in the next stage depends on what the US does, Wang said, calling for the US to take concrete action to address the DPRK's reasonable security concerns, set up basic mutual trust with the DPRK and keep working for the issue's political resolution by following the dual-track approach and the phased and synchronized principle.
China will continue to make its due contribution to the resolution of the issue, he added.
