Renowned Chinese dancer-choreographer Jin Xing will perform in a Chinese play, Sunrise, which will be staged in Shanghai from April 7 to 10 and make its debut in Beijing from April 22 to 23.

Produced by Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the play, directed by Jin, is adapted from Chinese playwright Cao Yu’s script of the same name, which was published in 1936. Premiering in Shanghai last year, the play portrays people from all walks of life and their struggles and failures in urban China during the 1930s.

Jin plays the role of Chen Bailu, a courtesan and the central figure in the story. She also plays a second role in the play as the prostitute Cuixi. Contemporary dance elements will be featured in the play, which will feature dancers from the Jin Xing Dance Theater.
