Medical workers at a fangcang, or makeshift hospital, in Lingang Area of Shanghai, recently held a "graduation" ceremony for a 93-year-old woman, who once medically assisted in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53).

They held a ceremony on April 30 to celebrate the retired medical worker Wang Manru's recovery from COVID-19 after staying there for a week.

Two retired army solders walked up to Wang, saluted her and gave her flowers. Wang said she was deeply moved and appreciated all the healthcare workers' hard work.

Historical data showed that Wang, working as a nurse from Shanghai No 3 People's Hospital, participated in rescuing the war wounded in the 1950.

After returning from the war, she dedicated her life to pediatric care until retirement.

Healthcare workers from Shanghai Huashan Hospital, who are responsible for treating patients at the fangcang, said they enjoyed talking to Wang, who was always talkative and cooperative, and listened to her good old days.

The workers promised to visit her when the epidemic fades away to listen to her glorious experience and tell her the story of today's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
