Original picture books on show to reiterate wisdom in fables
The past century has witnessed vibrant development in the art of picture books. Popularity of picture books transcend nations, languages and cultures, creating resonance in the hearts of children and adults alike around the world.
Since 2019, Shenzhen Art Museum has shown original picture books by home-grown artists every year as a way to celebrate the International Children's Day on June 1. This year's exhibition, Traditional Fables in Picture Books, brings together works by two female creators, Liu Peipei and Qi Siyu. In their reinterpretations of classical texts of the East and West, Liu vividly depicts the vigor of small animals in her series of Aesop's Fables, and Qi enlivens characters from ancient Chinese tales and operas.
The exhibition runs through June 5.
