Sculpture exhibition brings together east and west
Huang Qicheng, a sculptor, antique restorer and young scholar at the Palace Museum, is noted for reflecting on the traditions of Chinese sculpture and modern context in his work. His work sources inspiration from ancient Chinese intellectuals' take on a perfect lifestyle that is close to nature, and presents an atmosphere of serenity and loftiness.
Huang's sculptures are now on show at House of Wang, a space seated in a traditional courtyard, in a peaceful hutong alley in the heart of Beijing.
The exhibition, Realm of Microcosm, curated by Liang Shuang and jointly presented by A.T.U.S-Art Tunes Up Space and THOW,reviews Huang's working methods since his studies at Tsinghua University. The exhibition juxtaposes his work with fine furniture from across the world to conduct a dialogue between the past and present, the East and West.
