BOE makes play for e-sports segment
Chinese display panel supplier BOE Technology Group Co Ltd is doubling down on the e-sports segment by strengthening cooperation with companies of upstream and downstream industrial chains to establish an e-sports ecosystem.
BOE has rolled out an e-sports experience capsule equipped with high-end e-sports display products from world-renowned brands such as HP, Lenovo and Oppo to provide an immersive experience for game enthusiasts.
Currently, the demand for notebook and display products with high refresh rates has witnessed explosive growth. According to market research company Omdia, sales of computer displays with 120Hz refresh rate or above are on the rise. Shipments of BOE's e-sports laptop screens took the top spot across the globe in 2021, accounting for 39 percent of market share.
In recent years, BOE has joined with chip manufacturers such as Intel and Qualcomm, launched a series of premium flagship products including smartphones, PCs, displays and televisions by teaming up with HP and Lenovo, as well as expanded cooperation with Chinese e-commerce giant JD to expand retail channels.
BOE said it is deepening collaboration with industry partners to build an e-sports ecosystem which covers hardware, terminal devices, content and marketing.
Statistics from market consultancy iResearch showed the market scale of China's e-sports market reached 167.3 billion yuan ($24.4 billion) last year, an increase of 13.5 percent year-on-year. The figure is expected to rise 10.5 percent on a yearly basis to 184.9 billion yuan in 2022.
