For the Party and for his parents: An influencer tells Ningxia's stories
The 20th CPC National Congress is on, and we're looking at young Party members across China as they tell their inspirational stories. Meet Li Yang, a program host and a social media influencer. As a young member of the Party he takes pride in being able to show his country and his region, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, to a worldwide audience through his videos.
Li's videos extend to the hearts and eyes of many who have left Ningxia to study elsewhere in China and overseas. Li said: "Many of my fans are people who left their hometown to study. They leave comments saying these short videos resonate with them, giving them a warm and familiar feeling." Li uses his videos to show off the many unique dialects of this region and the scenery that draws people from around the world.
As an influencer, Li is out for more than just gaining followers, of which he has 4 million. For Li, his work is more personal, and he hopes to promote an issue dear to his heart: physical disabilities and their impact on people's lives. Li's parents are both hearing and speech impaired, so he uses his videos to help the world better understand the disabled.
As a party member, making videos is his way of serving as a role model to others to show the values of the Party. He says he hopes that at the Congress issues important to disabled people will be touched upon.
