President Xi Jinping said he stands ready to work with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to further bilateral cooperation in all fields under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to bring benefits to the two countries and their peoples.

Xi made the remark as he exchanged congratulatory messages with Museveni on Tuesday on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Xi said that China and Uganda enjoy a traditional friendship that grows stronger with time. In recent years, the two countries have deepened their mutual political trust and cooperation in various areas, he said.

The two nations have also firmly supported each other on issues that concern respective core interests and major concerns, and have coordinated closely on global and regional affairs, Xi said.

He added that the Chinese and Ugandan peoples have assisted each other in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, writing a new chapter of bilateral friendship.

The president said he highly values developing the China-Uganda relationship and is willing to work with Museveni to jointly build a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.

Museveni praised the vitality of the China-Uganda relationship, saying that the two sides have closely coordinated with each other over the past 60 years and have jointly pushed forward and implemented multiple major cooperation programs. His country will remain committed to promoting bilateral ties, he said.

Museveni said he believes the friendly cooperation between the two countries will deepen further, benefiting the two peoples and contributing to world peace, stability and cooperation.
