Midlife crisis looms in Huang Bo’s latest
One of Chinese philosopher Confucius’ most famous proverbs says,,”People will come to be free from doubts when they turn 40.” Nevertheless, perplexity still haunts Bian Liang, a 42-year-old automotive sales manager played by Huang Bo in the TV series Turn on the Right Way of Life.
Premiering on Shanghai‘s Dragon Television and Jiangsu Satellite TV as well as Youku on Jan 24, the 40-episode drama examining midlife crisis has pulled at the heartstrings of many viewers.
Touching on social concerns ranging from education anxiety to career bottlenecks, the drama begins with the protagonist dealing with messes both at home and work. Facing a tough new boss who was his former romantic interest, Bian also worries about coping with family conflicts caused by his indifferent son. In spite of stress and confusion, Bian finally finds a way to move forward.
Under the helm of director Lin Ke, the drama features a veteran cast, including actresses Mei Ting, Zhu Zhu and actors Tian Yu and Wang Zhifei.
During an earlier interview, actress Zhu said the drama aims to convey a positive message inspiring modern city dwellers to better handle the balance between family and work, as well as stay faithful to their hearts.
